Emergency transport

Our critical care transport (CCT) team specializes in transporting anyone that is critically ill, including premature infants and young adults, via ambulance, helicopter or airplane to a higher level of care. We primarily transport throughout Southern Nevada, Northwest Arizona, Eastern California and Southwest Utah, but our services extend throughout Nevada and even other parts of the Western United States, when needed.

Once your child is accepted at our hospital, we work with their referring physicians and offer transport services. Then, our team arrives for pickup and maintains contact with our receiving emergency department or intensive care unit (ICU) physician during transport. Our team discusses treatment that needs to be initiated or maintained. During transport, we provide companionship and services, such as movies, to ease your child's stress.

Our team has all of the critical care equipment needed in the right sizes depending on your child's needs. We always carry sophisticated critical care monitors, medication infusion pumps and ventilators that can be used on children smaller than 0.5 pounds to larger than 500 pounds.

Critical care services

Kids with sudden illnesses or injuries may need support beyond children's urgent care. With us, your child has access to a variety of resources.

Neonatal intensive care

At our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), we have neonatologists and skilled nurses with specialized training in caring for premature and critically ill newborns. The neonatal team utilizes advanced equipment and technology made just for babies. including medication, beds, monitoring and respiratory support.

Additionally, our NICU is the only one in Nevada that provides extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for newborns. ECMO imitates the natural function of the heart and lungs and allows babies to rest while healing. It is used for newborns suffering respiratory and/or cardiac failure as a result of birth defects, trauma or severe infection.

Our Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a place to relax and regroup for families who have a child in the NICU and want to be near their bedside. If you arrive from out-of-town, we have arrangements with nearby hotels for discounted rates for our guest families. We also offer resources for families through our online guest services programs.

Pediatric intensive care

When an older child or teen needs advanced care, we admit them to our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Our pediatric specialists with additional training oversee your child's admission and involve doctors from multiple disciplines in determining care.

The PICU also includes Nevada's only pediatric heart program, which offers congenital heart abnormality treatment and open-heart surgery. Our health strategy improves survival, speeds up recovery and minimizes pain that may stem from an illness and injury.

Trauma care

As a Level II Trauma Center, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Sunrise Children's Hospital provide care for the emergency needs of any sick child ranging from 1 to 17 years old as well as adults and seniors.

Our trauma program is certified by the American College of Surgeons - Committee on Trauma, and is led by a team of experienced trauma professionals trained to help children. Specialties in the trauma center include anesthesiology, child life services, general surgery, imaging and radiology service, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, ear, nose and throat (ENT) and physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Injury prevention

  • Bike safety
  • Child passenger safety
