Orthopedic care

Orthopedists are doctors who take care of the entire musculoskeletal system. They diagnose and treat conditions such sprains, strains, broken bones, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of the treatments they offer include recommending lifestyle changes, applying casts and performing surgeries, such as ligament repairs or total joint replacements.

Joint replacement procedures

Our dedicated joint replacement program provides you with a team of expert orthopedic surgeons who will be by your side throughout treatment. As part of our complete orthopedic program, we perform minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and total replacement procedures for the hip and knee.

Total hip replacement

Many individuals who need hip replacement surgery have osteoarthritis. This frequent condition occurs when cartilage on the end of bone begins wearing away, causing pain and stiffness. When the cartilage wears away completely, the bones rub directly against each other, indicating that a full replacement is necessary.

Another degenerative hip disease that leads to hip replacement surgery is avascular necrosis, which causes the head of the femur to lose some of its blood supply and die. Hip fractures and some childhood hip conditions can also lead to degeneration many years after an injury.

Hip replacement surgery can add to your quality of life and even help you return to many of your daily activities.

Total knee replacement

Totally replacing the knee, which resurfaces the knee joint, is very effective in relieving nearly all knee pain. During this procedure, our doctors cover the femur or thighbone with a metal covering and place plastic on the tibia. This allows the new metal and plastic implants to smoothly glide against each other, much like natural cartilage does.

In most cases, we replace the undersurface of the kneecap with a plastic surface so that this glides with the femoral surface.

After knee replacement, you should be able to perform regular activities, including walking, bicycling, golfing and swimming. Your prosthesis isn't designed for impact-loading sports, such as skiing, basketball or racquetball. However, some people have been able to play doubles tennis with bilateral knee replacements.

Spine surgery

If you have chronic back or neck pain, our spine care program may be able to help you overcome your persistent discomfort. We treat several spine-related conditions, including bone spurs, bulging discs, compression fractures and herniated discs. If you need surgery, we take a conservative approach to best fit your needs and comfort level.
