Breast cancer screening recommendations
Breast cancer prevention is a high priority for us. Our goal is to emphasize how important self-examinations and regular screenings are to ongoing early detection and the most effective cure.
The American Cancer Society recommends these screening guidelines for most women:
- Breast self-exams (BSE) — Women should know how their breasts usually look and feel, and promptly report any changes to their health care provider. BSE is an option for women starting at 20 years old.
- Clinical breast exam — Completed about every three years for women who are 20 to 30 years old and every year for women 40 years old and older.
- Yearly mammograms — Recommend starting at 40 years old and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health.
Based on family history, genetic tendencies or other hereditary factors, some women should have MRI screenings, in addition to mammograms. Talk with your doctor about your history and whether you should have additional tests at an earlier age.
Gynecological surgery
Our women's care options include traditional and robot-assisted surgeries. Minimally invasive surgery, such as robot-assisted surgery, minimizes scarring, uses smaller incisions and helps shorten recovery time. Robotic procedures include:
- Endometriosis surgery
- Hysterectomy
- Myomectomy
- Sacrocolpopexy
