Sunrise Health July 29, 2014

Las Vegas, NV — In the first meeting of its kind, the Sunrise Health System of hospitals — Sunrise, MountainView, Southern Hills, and Sunrise Children’s — will host the first citywide antimicrobial meeting on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Sunrise Health System is teaming up with other hospitals across Las Vegas to address ongoing antibiotic resistance issues. The purpose of the meeting is to create antimicrobial stewardships that consist of committees to reduce the use of strong, unnecessary antibiotics.

Dr. Eric Ramos, FAAFP and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for HCA’s Far West Division will facilitate a discussion regarding antimicrobial stewardship. Discussions will focus on ways to work to promote more appropriate antibiotic use to help ensure patients receive the right medication that is most suitable for their healthcare needs. CEOs, COOs, CNOs, CMOs and Chief pharmacy members from hospitals citywide will be in attendance. In addition to the key hospital leaders, Nevada Hospital Association, Clark County Medical Society, and infectious disease doctors have been invited to attend.

Featured speakers will be Kim Leuthner, PharmD, UMC of Southern Nevada Infectious Disease Clinical Specialist and Dr. Edward Septimus, FACP, FIDSA, FSHEA, HCA’s Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Epidemiology and Professor of Internal Medicine at Texas A&M and a Professor/Distinguished Senior Fellow at the School of Public Health, George Mason University.
