Jack Simpson
In a remarkable display of compassion, Southern Hills Hospital transformed 80-year-old patient Jack Simpson's life.
Jack Simpson, an 80-year-old patient, had spent several months in Southern Hills Hospital, battling mobility issues. Though his heart longed to return home to his family in Portland, Oregon, circumstances made it difficult. The amount of medical transfers and escorts seemed insurmountable, and Jack’s family worried about how to bring him back.
However, compassion and kindness knew no bounds within the walls of Southern Hills Hospital.
Understanding Jack’s predicament, the hospital made a heartwarming decision. They resolved to cover the expenses and arrange a plane ticket for Jack’s journey home. This act of generosity gave hope to Jack’s family, lifting a heavy burden from their hearts.
To ensure Jack’s comfort and well-being during the trip, Southern Hills’ very own Director of Case Management, Adam Mathis, volunteered to accompany him. Adam is known for his dedication and care for patients. His decision to personally escort Jack home showcased his exceptional commitment to his patient’s welfare.
In preparation for the journey, Adam went above and beyond his duties. He carefully chose new clothes for Jack, keeping in mind his preferences and needs. Additionally, knowing Jack’s love for ice hockey and the Vegas Golden Knights, Adam surprised him with a few items bearing the team’s emblem — a gesture that brought a smile to Jack’s face.
The story of Jack Simpson’s journey from Southern Hills Hospital to Portland is an inspiring tale of compassion and selflessness. It reminds everyone that sometimes, the most significant impact we can make is in the simple act of showing kindness and going the extra mile for someone in need.
