Orthopedic care
Orthopedists are doctors who take care of the entire musculoskeletal system. They diagnose and treat conditions such sprains, strains, broken bones, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of the treatments they offer include recommending lifestyle changes, applying casts and performing surgeries, such as ligament repairs or total joint replacements.

Joint replacement surgery
One option for treating your bone disorder is joint replacement surgery, which involves replacing the joint, either fully or partially, with a prosthetic implant. Our certifications from The Joint Commission for knee and hip replacements exemplify our dedication to offering effective procedures and giving you an excellent surgical experience.
Robot-assisted joint replacement
We now offer robotic surgery for total knee, partial knee and total hip replacements. This highly advanced technology transforms the way the surgery is performed, giving our surgeons increased accuracy and enabling improved outcomes.
Through a computerized tomography (CT) scan of your diseased joint, we can create a 3D model of your bone anatomy. Surgeons can then create your personalized treatment plan. Also, by targeting only the damaged part of the joint, surgeons can spare the surrounding healthy bones, tissues and ligaments.
Benefits of robot-assisted surgery
Compared to traditional methods, we perform the procedure using a robotic surgical system, which can offer several benefits, including:
- Decreased risk of the implant and bone rubbing together abnormally, improving the lifetime of the implant
- Faster recovery, due to the minimally invasive techniques used

Knee replacement
In most cases, total knee replacement effectively relieves nearly all chronic pain. It is important to note that a knee "replacement" is a "resurfacing" of the joint. The femur (thigh bone) is covered with a metal covering, and plastic is placed on the tibia (shin bone). The metal and plastic implants smoothly glide against each other, much like natural cartilage.
A partial knee replacement treats only the damaged portions with an implant. We may also resurface the underside of the kneecap as a part of your treatment.
After a total or partial knee replacement, you can usually enjoy a wide range of activities, such as walking, bicycling, golfing, swimming and sometimes, tennis. However, the prosthesis is not designed for high-impact sports, such as basketball, skiing and racquetball.
Hip replacement
We are dedicated to maximizing your functionality with less pain. Hip replacement surgery can improve your quality of life and help you quickly return to many of your daily activities. Total hip replacement surgery involves the removal of both the ball (femoral head) and socket (acetabulum) and replacing them with prosthetic implants.
Candidates for joint replacement surgery
Many factors can influence your surgery decision, including pain, functionality and daily routine. Our surgeons have performed joint replacements on patients aged 16 years old to patients aged 100 years old, so age does not have to be a disqualifying factor.
Also, you may be a candidate for the procedure if other methods have been ineffective and if the potential risks of the surgery are less than their potential benefits.
FAQs about joint replacement surgery
It's normal to have questions about joint replacement. We discuss factors affecting your surgery decision and our most commonly asked questions.
What would you say to people discouraged by chronic hip pain?
You don't have to live with hip pain or feel sad or helpless. Total hip replacement is a very effective solution that will likely increase your functionality and mobility.
Also, just because you have a consultation with a hip replacement surgeon does not mean you must have the surgery. If you are experiencing severe hip pain and unsure how to proceed, talk to a well-trained specialist and explore your options.
What are some common misconceptions about joint replacement surgery?
There are several common misconceptions about this innovative surgical technique, including:
- Only older people get hip replacements — The myth that this technique is for an older person is just that. Joint replacements are surgical procedures for anyone experiencing pain that is severely limiting. We treat many in their 30s, 40s and 50s who have developed severe hip arthritis. After receiving a hip replacement, pain is able to be reduced.
- Hip replacements only last 10 years — After 10 years, 92 to 95 percent of many who have hip replacements do not need another surgery. We've found that, usually, for every year after you've had the replacement, there's about a one percent chance you'll need another surgery. So, by 10 years, it's 10 percent; by 20 years, it's 20 percent and by 30 years, it's 30 percent.
- You'll recover in bed for weeks — You can expect to spend approximately an hour and a half in our operating room during the procedure. About two hours after the surgery, we encourage you to get up and walk. That gets your hip moving, improves your range of motion and prevents blood clots. Many people go home on the day of surgery while others stay in the hospital for one night.
- Total hip replacement is the only option — There are other procedures, such as hip resurfacing, that treat the same problems as total hip replacement. Hip resurfacing allows for higher functionality. For example, individuals treated with hip resurfacing can run long distances and play professional sports.
