3D mammograms
3D mammography, also called breast tomosynthesis, is a screening and diagnostic breast imaging service designed to improve the early detection of breast cancer. We use a low-dose short X-ray sweep around the positioned breast with nine exposures acquired with a “step-and-shoot” method. This unique process removes the potential motion from the tube, helping to reduce blur and increase image sharpness. With this equipment, there is no increase in radiation dose from a 2D standard mammogram to a 3D view.
Our breast health team provides expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the breasts. Focusing exclusively on breast health, our team of specialists includes:
- Board-certified breast imaging radiologists
- Board-certified oncologists
- Board-certified surgeons
- Licensed mammographers
- Pathologists
Recommendations for breast cancer screenings
Breast cancer prevention is a top priority, and regular screenings are key to catching abnormalities early.
Our guidelines for screenings
Self-examinations are essential to ongoing breast care, and early detection can lead to better outcomes. To help guide you, here are our recommendations for breast cancer screenings:
- Annual clinical breast physical exams, beginning at 40 years old
- Annual screening mammography, beginning at 40 years old
- Monthly breast self-examination, beginning at 20 years old
- Physical examinations by a health care provider every three years, beginning at 20 years old
In addition to these guidelines, you should get a mammogram every year if you are between 45 and 54 years old. If you are 55 and older, you can schedule a mammogram every other year or continue with annual exams. Screenings should continue as long as you are in good health.
