Edna P., PACU nurse at MountainView Hospital, recently celebrated 23 years with MountainView! Edna has been a nurse since 1974.

Here is her why….

“God made me to be a nurse. I wanted to be a doctor, but my family couldn’t afford it so, I went to nursing school,” Edna said.

After graduation, Edna worked as a pediatric nurse in the Philippines. She later moved with her husband from the Philippines to California, where she worked as a pediatric nurse and later to Hawaii. In Hawaii, she worked at the landmark “pink hospital,” also known as Tripler Army Medical Center.

When Edna moved with her family to Las Vegas, she worked at MountainView and another local hospital, before joining MountainView fulltime.

Edna said she has stayed at MountainView for so long because the people have always been so welcoming.

“This is a very caring place,” she said. “It is like a family here. Your opinion matters here.”

Edna has cared for many patients over her 40 years as a nurse, but one stands out after all these years, a patient in the Philippines, where she began her career.

“He said to me, because you are such a nice person, and took care of me so well, no one can step over you, I will protect you, I will be there,” Edna recounted of her conversation. The patient also drew a portrait of her, which Edna has to this day.

Her advice to new nurses entering the field: “Just be patient with your patient and care for them like you would want them to care for you, treat them like family.”

Thank you Edna, for your years of service and being a part of our family!
