A set-up by a colleague, a first dinner of Poke and wedding invitation on the third date was the start of a whirlwind romance that led two HCA colleagues to get married.

Quyen Nguyen was hired in 2017 as a StaRN in 4 North at MountainView Hospital, after graduating from Roseman University with a degree in nursing. She worked the night shift and enjoyed working on the unit.

One of Quyen’s ICU nursing colleague and friend mentioned to Quyen one day that she had met a Transitional Year resident, Kyle, whom she thought would be perfect for Quyen. Quyen agreed to meet him and on the designated day, Kyle came up to the floor to say hello.

“I thought he was just coming up to say hi, but he had bought dinner, Poke,” Quyen said. “At first I didn’t think he liked me, but it turns out he did!”

Quyen said on their first two official dates, Kyle was “such a gentleman,” picking her up in Henderson, which is about 25 miles from the hospital. On the third date, Kyle asked if Quyen would accompany him to a friend’s wedding, where Quyen (to her surprise) met Kyle’s parents.

After Kyle’s Transitional Residency was over, he transitioned to the University of Utah to continue his studies in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. Quyen moved to Utah as well, working for HCA Healthcare’s St. Mark’s Hospital – and the same CEO as when Quyen had been at MountainView, who had also since moved.

“I worked in the float pool and then critical care,” she said. “It was nice to have somebody to connect with at a new hospital.”

Following Utah, the couple moved to Texas where Kyle completed his fellowship. While in Texas, the pair got married in Houston, April 2023. The couple then decided to move back to Las Vegas.

Quyen said it was natural that the couple moved back to Las Vegas.  Kyle, who was born and raised in Las Vegas, also works at a hospital in town. Quyen enjoyed her time at MountainView.

"I wanted to come back, given the opportunity," she said.

She recently got that opportunity, rejoining MountainView as a nurse, again on 4 North.

“I wanted to work here, 4 North is an amazing unit, I love my coworkers,” Quyen said.
